Summer is here with a bang!
ArtsBuild presents three IMMEDIATE exhibition opportunities! No fees, sales are possible.
“Phantom Art Galleries”
ArtsBuild received a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board to place art in empty storefronts in our region. Currently we have downtown locations in Mineral Point and Platteville that need new work. We can use 2D &/or 3D work. I have many picture frames available, as well as display fixtures. Interested in showing your work this way? Contact Carole!
ALSO - we are looking for additional store windows! Let me know if you have leads.
Community Connections Free Clinic in Dodgeville is outfitted everywhere –waiting room, hallways, offices, exam rooms - with the hardware for hanging 2D work. We’ve been providing artwork there for a couple years, and it’s time to find more artists! I have frames for this project too. Interested in showing your work at a medical/dental clinic that gets a lot of traffic? Contact Carole!
State Capitol offices in Madison. Dale Schultz and Howard Marklein have agreed to show work from their constituents. (I’m working on Travis Tranel too!) Each of these offices is best for free-standing sculpture of modest size, or framed work that can stand on a table top. ArtsBuild has been placing art in the Capitol offices for over two years, and it’s a very popular program with both the legislators and their visitors! Interested in showing your work at the State Capitol? Contact Carole!
Other opportunity: Cheesefest – Shullsburg, WI
The Shullsburg Community Development Corporation is accepting applications for artists and crafters for the 13th annual Cheesefest on Saturday, October 1st from 9:00am – 3:00pm. The fee is $25.00 for a 10’x10’ space. Vendors need to provide their own displays, chairs and outdoor protection. Questions? Phone Jeff @608-965-3782 or 608-965-3459 or Cheryl at 608-965-4579.

“ArtsBuild Annual 2011” Reception - Tuesday
ArtsBuild is delighted to be hosting its third “ArtsBuild Annual”, a juried exhibition of program participants’ artwork. As always, the use of the term "artwork" is rather flexible. The pieces, from entrepreneurial artists all over the region, feature two and three-dimensional art forms. This wide variety of works includes photography, watercolor, ink, fiber, oil, wax, and some with a broad mix of materials.
"The jurors for the 2011 exhibition, Dunnell Kendrick-Parker and Judith Sutcliffe, selected a body of work that reflects skill and competency in a wide range of materials, as well as revealing a broad spectrum of subject matter and intellectual concerns,” said Carole Spelic’, ArtsBuild program coordinator.
This year’s edition includes 60 pieces from 23 artists:
Helen Anderson
Gordon Glass
Leonard Ross
Shirley Audetat
Bill Grover
Ben Russell
Kate Bausch
Mary Zierold Holcomb
Michael J. Smith
Charles Behnke
Nona Hyytinen
Sharon Stauffer
Greg Bykowski
Carye VanDer Pol Mahoney
Brian Stuart
Tina Duemler
Joella Miller
Lauren Thuli
Jillian Eggert
Richard Moninski
Marie Whisenant
Karen Fitzsimons
Jeb Prazak
Students, faculty, staff and the public are invited to a special opening reception for the artists on Tuesday, February 15, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Admission is free and refreshments will be served in the Nohr Gallery in Ullsvik Hall on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus. Attending the reception is a great way to interact and network with the artists.
The exhibition will open Monday, Feb. 14 and continue to run through Friday, March 11. Nohr Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (Tuesdays until 8:00 p.m.); and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Carole Spelic', ArtsBuild program coordinator, at 608-342-1314, or spelicc@uwplatt.edu.
